Chapter 4: Marketing with facebook

In today's world, social media platforms like Facebook are integral to business strategies, providing companies with vast opportunities to connect with customers, advertise, and engage with their target audience. Despite its benefits, I’ve always found myself drifting away from platforms like Facebook, rarely engaging with them. This inclination may seem unusual, particularly as I navigate both my studies in accounting and marketing and my broader career ambitions. However, my limited use of Facebook aligns with the kind of career I’m building in accounting, and here's why. As a marketing major, I’ve learned the strategic importance of Facebook for businesses. From creating optimized business pages to utilizing Facebook Ads Manager, companies can reach billions of potential customers. The platform offers tools to run ads, track engagement, and tailor messages to specific audiences. There’s no denying the effectiveness of Facebook in promoting visibility and driving c...

Getting Old!

My dad is turning 50 years old on Monday, September 30th, and I wanted to use this blog post to highlight some of my favorite memories with him over the years. Now that I'm in my final year of undergrad and looking to start a career in a different area than where I grew up, it's a bittersweet feeling. I know it’s hard on families to see their "baby boy" all grown up, especially when I'm preparing to leave the nest. In the most childlike way, my dad has always been my best friend. We've always shared a close bond, and a big part of that came from the countless trips and long car rides we took for sports. Growing up, my parents' philosophy was to keep me active and exposed to a variety of experiences, whether it was sports, travel, or interactions with others. And my dad was always right there with me, cheering me on every step of the way. One of my most cherished memories with my dad is a trip my family took to Boston in 2012 when I was ten years old. A pre...

Chapter 3: SM Marketing Strategy & Advertising

For this specific chapter, I want to refer to my podcast with my sister. I think she had so much great insight, and we talked a good deal about this stuff that it is appropriate to refer back to that. It was interesting to read into how brands can leverage social media to create meaningful connections with their audiences. During my recent podcast interview with Cailee Copes, a Senior Research Analyst with a wealth of experience in social media management and brand marketing, we explored strategies that perfectly align with the key concepts from this chapter. One of the key themes from Chapter 3 is how social media has transformed brand communication. Cailee emphasized that social media has revolutionized industries like fashion, particularly streetwear, by enabling more dynamic and direct interactions with consumers. Traditional marketing methods like billboards have been replaced by influencer marketing and product placements in everyday social media feeds. This aligns with the emp...

How do you say??? Busy???

The title of this blog is pretty dramatic, but talk about a long week! So, I took on a new position at ONU called the Student Resource Center Coordinator; here is a little snippet of the announcement that went out to campus: " It is a pleasure to announce that Ohio Northern University has partnered with Campus Community Coalition (Triple C) to bring an AmeriCorps Member and Student Resource Center to our campus. Triple C launched the Student Resource Centers (SRC) initiative in 2019 as a way to support colleges and universities in better-assisting students. A Student Resource Center is a place on campus where students can go to get connected to resources to help eliminate barriers that may impact their ability to succeed academically, stay enrolled from one semester to the next, and ultimately earn a degree. The SRC provides referrals regarding, but not limited to, food, clothing, transportation, mental health/counseling support, academic needs/supplies, and many other resources t...

Indistinct Chatter Podcast with Cailee Copes: The Impact of Social Media on the Fashion Industry

Image
This week, I had the pleasure of interviewing Cailee Copes, a Senior Research Analyst at Ipsos Market Research with extensive experience in social media management and brand marketing. Cailee shared her valuable insights on how social media has revolutionized the fashion industry, particularly in the streetwear sector. As the former social media manager for the hip-hop streetwear brand Cross Colours, Cailee knows a thing or two about connecting with audiences through online platforms. In this episode, we dove into social media's transformative role in reshaping how fashion brands interact with their consumers. Cailee explained how social media has contributed to the rise of fast fashion, allowing brands to showcase and sell their latest collections instantly. She also highlighted how the traditional reliance on billboards and celebrity endorsements has been replaced by influencers and product placement in everyday social media feeds, making it easier for audiences to connect with a...

Three types of people.

I feel like there are three types of people in life. Those who care, those who don’t, and those that don’t know whether to care or not. At this point in life, I think I am someone that doesn’t know whether to care or not. What I mean by this is I really don’t know what is worth my energy or time. Like throughout daily life, you have all your different commitments and promises, which, if you are a decent person, you will fulfill unless, of course, something dire arises.  But where is the line you draw between something really being worthwhile and fulfilling or things that just keep you busy and don’t really add that much value to your life. That’s something I struggle with frequently. As someone who has always been “busy,” I am starting to want different in my life. Maybe not completely stepping away from all things I am involved in, but having one thing I pour most of my time into would be nice. It's hard to figure out where that balance lies because it's so easy to get caught ...

Chapter 12: Blogs, Vlogs, Podcast, and Webinars

According to our textbook, 77% of people on the internet read blogs; I am not one of them. I guess we are all technically blog users/readers taking Principles of Social Media now. I recently caught myself watching a "fashion/lifestyle influencer" on YouTube. I do like the concept of filming yourself, trying new things, and meeting new people. Mainly because you can look back on your life at any point in time and see where your head was. Before Principles of Social Media, I had yet to hear about the different blog sites the book mentioned, like WordPress, Wix, and Medium.com. I also figured Tumblr was something for an older crowd, but it seems it was popular for young adults in the 2010s. Blogs also provide brands and businesses a way to spread their vision and increase the number of eyes on their stories. Some of the things our textbook points out as benefits for marketers on blogs are the businesses participating in blogging, increasing their brand awareness, and allowing ...
