How do you say??? Busy???
The title of this blog is pretty dramatic, but talk about a long week! So, I took on a new position at ONU called the Student Resource Center Coordinator; here is a little snippet of the announcement that went out to campus:
"It is a pleasure to announce that Ohio Northern University has partnered with Campus Community Coalition (Triple C) to bring an AmeriCorps Member and Student Resource Center to our campus. Triple C launched the Student Resource Centers (SRC) initiative in 2019 as a way to support colleges and universities in better-assisting students.
A Student Resource Center is a place on campus where students can go to get connected to resources to help eliminate barriers that may impact their ability to succeed academically, stay enrolled from one semester to the next, and ultimately earn a degree. The SRC provides referrals regarding, but not limited to, food, clothing, transportation, mental health/counseling support, academic needs/supplies, and many other resources to address students' diverse needs. AmeriCorps members are placed on college and university campuses to create a new or enhance an existing SRC and to directly serve students on campus. The ONU Student Resource Center will serve as a central hub for student resource referrals and is available for all ONU students!"
This is one of the coolest opportunities I've had during my time at ONU. I have gone through some tough times in college, and getting through those challenges took longer than it should have. So, having a Student Resource Center would have been incredible during those times, but I couldn't be happier to be the person who is helping students with those exact needs and challenges I have gone through.
Flipping the page a little bit, let's talk about roommates. I have 6 of them. You read that correctly, 6, and this is not a frat house. I live with my teammates off-campus, and for the most part, it is a pretty fun/funny experience. The guys I live with are interesting, to say the least, and we have all come from very different walks of life. For starters, only 2 of us are from Ohio, which is relatively uncommon given the demographics of this University. The rest of us are from Michigan, Florida, North Carolina, and Washington, D.C. We have a diverse bunch, which leads to many arguments and rambunctiousness. There is no other way I would like to have it. Love my housemates and the memories we have made and will continue to make.
Sounds like a the title is fitting for this week and blog! The new position sounds fun but also a new exciting challenge. I can definitely relate to the roommate challenges, as I only have 4 of them, we still manage to have a great time. Also, its nice being neighbors.
