Please let me go home

As much as I’ve enjoyed the excitement and reflection that this time of year brings, something I’ve highlighted in my recent blogs, I am absolutely ready to go home. There’s something about knowing you’re about to step back into the comfort of familiar surroundings with the people who know you best that makes the countdown feel endless.

This weekend, however, will look a little different than usual. My sister is picking me up from the airport on Friday night, and I’ll spend the weekend with her. It’s been a while since we’ve had uninterrupted time together, and I’m genuinely excited about it. When you’re constantly busy with school, work, and everything else life throws at you, it’s easy to forget how refreshing it can be to hang out with family, laugh, and catch up on life.

The reason for this unique setup? My parents will be out of town celebrating a friend’s 50th birthday. I mentioned this in a previous blog, and while I’ll miss the usual family routine when I first get home, I’m happy they’re taking time to celebrate life with their friends. It’s a great reminder of the importance of cherishing milestones.

This shift in plans has worked out for the better. Spending the weekend with my sister means I can kick off my trip with one of my favorite people. She and I share a special bond, and it’s these moments of just being together, whether we’re running errands, binge-watching shows, or reminiscing about childhood memories, remind me how lucky I am to have her in my life.

While I’ve written recently about how much I love this season, the decorations, family traditions, and the overall coziness. I must admit, I’ve reached that point where I only want to go home. There’s something about being home that resets everything. It’s where the world's chaos quiets down, and the holiday season truly begins for me.

I know this weekend will be the perfect mix of relaxation and reconnection. It’s a chance to catch my breath before the full-on holiday chaos begins. And when my parents return from their trip, it’ll be even more special to share all the little moments from our weekend.
