Chapter 6: Marketing w/ X

In today’s digital world, platforms like X have become go-to tools for businesses, helping them engage in real-time, boost their marketing, and increase brand visibility. With millions of people sharing content every second, it’s no surprise X plays such a huge role in modern communication. As a marketing major, I’ve learned how to use platforms like X to help businesses grow, but, interestingly enough, I don’t use it much myself. This ties into the career I’m building in accounting and the kind of lifestyle I want to lead.

X has had its share of challenges with misinformation and trust issues, which hit home for me as someone who values transparency and ethical standards, especially as an aspiring accountant. With all the controversies surrounding it, my decision to use X less often feels natural. I prefer to spend my time on tools and platforms that align with my values as someone entering a field where accuracy and trust are everything, I also have no use for it.

Even though I know how powerful social media can be for marketing, I’m more focused on building a career where long-term relationships matter most. Social media has its place in branding for sure, but success in accounting is about providing accurate financial advice and making sure businesses stay on the right side of regulations. For me, using X sparingly is part of my commitment to a career where precision and trust are at the core.

That said, I do see how platforms like X can benefit someone in my field. They’re great for networking, sharing insights, and keeping up with trends in finance and accounting. While I don’t use X as much as some might, I get that being present on social media can help me connect with peers, potential clients, and industry leaders. As I move forward in my career, I might find ways to use it more strategically, striking a balance between the fast-paced nature of social media and the thoughtful, careful approach accounting demands.

  1. Utilizing X definitely isn't meant for everyone. As a marketing major I see the benefit in it, but personally, I would never spend time using it on my own. Transparency is a major issue on many social platforms so I'm glad that you mentioned that. These are things I will definitely consider when building my career.

  2. I completely understand where you're coming from. Even though I have a marketing focus, and social media has always caught my attention, I've never really used X. It just wasn't appealing to me, and I never really anything to say or post on it. I don't doubt that it's beneficial to business and companies from a marketing stand point, but at same time it makes me wonder just what exactly about that app do people love so much?
