New hobbies: Turning into a story teller

There's something really cool about being transported to a world that exists only in someone else's mind. An affection for fictional worlds has always been a part of me, and recently, I've found a new passion for creating characters and crafting my own stories. My love for movies and the immersive experiences they offer sparked this journey. Watching a well-crafted film or reading an organized and vast fiction story is like stepping into another universe, where every detail, from the characters' motivations to the landscapes they live, has been meticulously constructed. The sense of wonder and creativity drove me to explore the art of storytelling myself. I’m inspired by authors like George R.R. Martin, J.K. Rowling, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Frank Herbert. Creators of entire worlds and mythologies that feel as though they actually do exist. Their ability to dream up realms with their own rules, histories, and cultures and then share those visions on paper is something I ...

Marketing w/ Snapchat

Snapchat is a powerful tool for marketers, offering a unique and dynamic platform to engage with younger audiences. With over 406 million daily users, Snapchat provides marketers with an unparalleled opportunity to connect with a highly engaged audience that opens the app more than 30 times a day. What makes Snapchat stand out from other social platforms is its ability to create a sense of urgency, thanks to the ephemeral nature of its content. For brands aiming to tap into real-time interactions and boost customer engagement, Snapchat’s time-limited snaps create a level of excitement and immediacy that few platforms can replicate. One of the key strengths of Snapchat lies in its creative features, such as filters, geofilters, and lenses. These tools allow brands to add layers of personalization to their campaigns, making each interaction more meaningful for the user. For instance, Snapchat’s AR lenses have been widely adopted by brands looking to create interactive experiences. A...

Fall break through the years

Being a student at a university in Ohio and living in Maryland means that going home for fall break has never really been an option for me. Instead, I've found myself on new adventures each year, spending time with friends and their families, exploring new places, and creating unforgettable memories. As a senior now, it's been interesting to look back on how each fall break has shaped my college experience in a unique way. Freshman Year: A Taste of Chicago My first fall break in college set the tone for the kind of trips I would end up taking. I traveled with one of my teammates to the Chicago area, staying with his family and exploring the city. One of the most memorable (and maybe not in the best way) experiences was when we went to this famous deep-dish pizza spot downtown. My friend hyped it up like it was the best thing ever, and I was ready to be blown away. Well, I did get blown away... but by a bad case of food poisoning. I got sick on the train ride all the way back to...

The NFL’s Wild 2024 Season

This NFL season has been nothing short of wild so far, with a surprising number of teams exceeding expectations and making the race for the playoffs more unpredictable than I’ve seen it in a long time. There are a lot of underdog teams showing remarkable resilience to once-overlooked franchises rising to the challenge; the league is more wide open than it's been in years. As we reach the midway point of the season, it’s clear that no team is safe, and any given Sunday could flip the script. One of the most exciting aspects of this season is how several teams that were expected to struggle have turned into serious contenders. For instance, the Detroit Lions. Long considered one of the sport's worst franchises, the Lions have emerged as a legitimate threat in the NFC North. Their defense has been incredible, and quarterback Jared Goff is having a resurgence that many doubted was possible. Add to that a dynamic offense with playmakers like Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs, a...

Chapter 6: Marketing w/ X

In today’s digital world, platforms like X have become go-to tools for businesses, helping them engage in real-time, boost their marketing, and increase brand visibility. With millions of people sharing content every second, it’s no surprise X plays such a huge role in modern communication. As a marketing major, I’ve learned how to use platforms like X to help businesses grow, but, interestingly enough, I don’t use it much myself. This ties into the career I’m building in accounting and the kind of lifestyle I want to lead. X has had its share of challenges with misinformation and trust issues, which hit home for me as someone who values transparency and ethical standards, especially as an aspiring accountant. With all the controversies surrounding it, my decision to use X less often feels natural. I prefer to spend my time on tools and platforms that align with my values as someone entering a field where accuracy and trust are everything, I also have no use for it. Even though I know ...

Celebrating a Decade of ONU Lacrosse: Alumni Weekend

This Friday marks an exciting milestone for the ONU lacrosse program as we host our annual alumni game at 7 p.m. on October 4th. This year is particularly special as we celebrate our program's 10th anniversary. Every year, we come together to honor the players who have worn the Polar Bear jersey before us, and this time, for the first time ever, the alumni team will actually outnumber the current squad! It’s amazing to reflect on how far our program has come in just a decade. We’ve built a strong tradition, and I’m especially looking forward to catching up with my friends and former teammates, Ben and Bennet. These guys were seniors last season and graduated, but more than just great leaders on the field, they were even better friends off it. I miss the little things, like our film sessions with our position group. Those sessions weren't just about breaking down plays, they were times when we could just be ourselves, share a few laughs, and goof around with the fellas. Those ar...

Homecoming Weekend Volleyball tournament

Image
Homecoming weekend: ONU Volleyball Tournament This past weekend, ONU volleyball showcased its dominance and skill, winning all four matches between Friday and Saturday. The team’s performance clearly showed why ONU volleyball is one of the most established and respected programs, with a roster of talented and dedicated players. They faced tough competition but emerged victorious, dropping just one set each day. Friday’s Matches: Westminster (PA.) and Wheaton (Ill.) The tournament kicked off with ONU taking on Westminster (PA.), and the Bears wasted no time in setting the tone for the weekend, securing a decisive 3-0 victory. Every point felt like a statement of intent, as the team worked together seamlessly. The second match on Friday saw ONU face Wheaton (Ill.), where they dropped one set but quickly bounced back to win 3-1. The team’s ability to regroup after a setback and finish strong was impressive, a testament to their resilience and focus. Saturday’s Battles: Man...
